· To manually download firmware and update your device: Visit www.netgear.com/support. Type your model number in the search box. If a drop-down menu displays, select your model. If you do not see a drop-down menu, make sure you entered your model number correctly, or select a product category to browse for your product model. Click Firmware and Software Downloads.
· Select Firmware Update or Router Update. Click Check. The router searches for new firmware. If new firmware is available, click Yes. After you click Yes, do not try to go online, turn off the router, or do anything else to the router until it finishes restarting. The firmware update starts and the router restarts. The firmware update process can take a few minutes.
· Access the firmware update page: On most models, select Settings > Firmware Update. If you do not see that option, select Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade. Click Check Online or Check. Note: The label varies by extender. If new firmware is available, follow the onscreen prompts to update the firmware.

You can do this in one of three ways: with the Nighthawk app, through a web browser, or by manually selecting a specific firmware version and installing it. Instructions for updating firmware state you must connect the router to your computer with an ethernet cable, that you cannot do it wirelessly. My husband and I both have relatively new laptops (one PC, one Mac) and neither one has a port to plug an ethernet cable into. Is there a way to update my firmware without this? I've been having some issues with my router and think it would help.
